According to the German Nutrition Society (DGE), the daily zinc requirement is on average 8.3 mg for women and 13.6 mg for men (NRV: 10 mg) to avoid a deficiency. There is an increased zinc requirement during pregnancy and breastfeeding (11-14 mg). A higher zinc intake can also be useful for vegan or vegetarian diets, in old age or during intensive physical activity.
